Sometimes in my line of work I meet some great people doing some unique things.
This day was no exception. I was contacted by Niagara Vintage Wine Tours to be a secret photographer on a secret marriage proposal shoot. The bride to be had no idea!
The location for today’s secret proposal? The wine cellars at Peller Estates Winery.
This week I decided to play Tourist in my own town. Yes, I chose to do this during one of the coldest spells in the history of cold.
I tend to do that every few months for a few reasons. It keeps me in the know if random people ask me questions like where is this, where is that, is this thing cool?
My stay-cation started with Niagara Helicopters. Been in Niagara for over 40 years and never wanted to take a Helicopter ride.
This week it was decided that we were going to watch Happy Gilmore. I hadn’t seen it in years. I remembered it was funny but was it going to be bore my kids? They happen to be the pickiest kids in the world. They did not want to watch Frankenweenie because it was in black and white. They thought it looked ‘old’. I wasn’t going to hold my breath with this.
To compliment the movie I made some pizza. I love making pizza. My first job was a dishwasher at an Italian restaurant. I advanced my career to pizza boy and learned mad skills.
If you want to see how I made this…….keep reading.
I am very much at times someone who likes to try things that are trending. I have lived in the Niagara Region for over 40 years, give or take a few of those years . So many of my friends raved about the Wonton soup at this donut shop next to 7-11 yet I had never gone.
When I was asked to join some friends for lunch at Paradiso today, I could not say no.
My wife accidentally ended up there when getting lost going to a funeral with her father. Since then they go back from time to time because they love the food and atmosphere. I have always been secretly jealous that I have never been invited. So when the opportunity arose, I jumped all over it!
Yes, sadly, lol, this is what i sing in my head every time I visit this place.
“Shake Your Rump” by the BEASTIE BOYS
“Like Sam the butcher bringing Alice the meat…Like Fred Flintstone driving around with bald feet “
In honor of Octoberfest I thought I would start a bit early and grill up some sausages from my amazing, local butcher. They make the best sausage and while in there today saw they had some Octoberfest links. Pairing this with a sweet French loaf from Spinoza’s Bakery in Welland this made for a great meal.
This is the first time in a long time that my wife actually enjoyed something I’ve deep fried. She tried to mock them, and it went something like, “you can keep these delicious juicy balls of goodness to yourself! or maybe I’ll just stand here and eat more!” Score. This is the exact reaction I want to have from her when I make Stuffing Waffles with gravy.
On to today’s treat.
Got it all?
I picked up a deep fryer a little while back to try some amazing French Fries. Since then I have used it a few times. Each time the wrath from my wife about the smell grew larger. This time I have decided to cook outside. It was a nice day so why not.
