Wet.

As you read this take comfort in the fact that you are probably sitting down, warm and dry.  For an hour yesterday, I too was lucky enough to be sitting down but I was far from warm or dry.

Growing up in the Niagara area has always been a blessing when it comes to cool things to do. I grew up on Clifton Hill and spent most of my youth taking advantage of all the attractions and fun things available to do.  Then I went to college; moved out of Niagara and landed in the big city of Toronto. That was 1992.  Coincidentally that was also the year that Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours opened commercially and took people on the wettest, most wildest ride of their lives. Sadly though, I was not one of those people.

Fast forward 25+ years.  Here I am. Warm and dry.  What fun is that?  I felt it was about time that I conquered this attraction and experienced what hundreds of thousands of people have experienced over the years.

Here we go.  We first listened to how to be safe while being covered in thousands of gallons of water.  First and most important rule – stay seated! Remember this one! We will revisit this later.

As we made our way to the dock the most overheard question was, “How wet will we get?”

Before we launched they were nice enough to take a photo of us while we were still dry and looking great!

Prior to launching, one final photo was taken before we took a tour of the Category 5 rapids.

The drive up to the rapids was quite nice. Picturesque and worth getting on the boat in Niagara On The Lake.  They have 2 locations in Canada and by getting on in NOTL you get a nice scenic cruise up the river.

We are now at the point of the post where you get to see the good stuff.  The wet stuff.  The good stuff.

As we enjoy the last moments of dryness our guide counts down……

Remember the stay seated rule?  Reflexes took over.  Breathing at the wrong time could fill you up with river water so be careful and keep your mouth closed.

It was amazeballs!  I have never been so wet.  You don’t get this wet in a shower. You don’t get this wet swimming!

I think we made it!

The cruise back to the dock was equally enjoyable as it gave us a bit of time to dry off.  I most definitely will be back.  This will now be the go-to attraction that I take visiting family to.  We had a great time and totally want to thank the staff at Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours.  They were great.

Lastly I have compiled some of the best footage that I took with my GoPro.  Man, I love that camera.  Enjoy this attraction. Share the video, share this post!

He took her on a helicopter tour and what happened next will shock you!

Sometimes in my line of work I meet some great people doing some unique things.

This day was no exception.  I was contacted by Niagara Vintage Wine Tours to be a secret photographer on a secret marriage proposal shoot.  The bride to be had no idea!

The location for today’s secret proposal?  The wine cellars at Peller Estates Winery.

Frozen Niagara

This week I decided to play Tourist in my own town.  Yes, I chose to do this during one of the coldest spells in the history of cold.

I tend to do that every few months for a few reasons.  It keeps me in the know if random people ask me questions like where is this, where is that, is this thing cool?

My stay-cation started with Niagara Helicopters.  Been in Niagara for over 40 years and never wanted to take a Helicopter ride.

Family movie and pizza night

This week it was decided that we were going to watch Happy Gilmore. I hadn’t seen it in years.  I remembered it was funny but was it going to be bore my kids? They happen to be the pickiest kids in the world.  They did not want to watch Frankenweenie because it was in black and white. They thought it looked ‘old’.  I wasn’t going to hold my breath with this.

To compliment the movie I made some pizza. I love making pizza.  My first job was a dishwasher at an Italian restaurant.  I advanced my career to pizza boy and learned mad skills.

If you want to see how I made this…….keep reading.

My Friday.

Started the day at the Seaway Mall.  The #blxstore is in full effect. Never has Welland or Niagara seen such a unique venture. A creative local artist group given mall space in prime Holiday season to sell their art and put #localartonlocalwalls .

Sorry sold out of donuts but we have lots of Wonton Soup

I am very much at times someone who likes to try things that are trending.  I have lived in the Niagara Region for over 40 years, give or take a few of those years .  So many of my friends raved about the Wonton soup at this donut shop next to 7-11 yet I had never gone.

5 Years of #PULPNATION

This Saturday marked the 5th Anniversary for Niagara Falls’ coolest shop, Pulp Comics.

The proprietor of the establishment, Paul, or as he was known on Saturday, Han Burgundy or  Ron Solo, celebrated his 5th year being Niagara’s premiere comic, collectable, fan-merch, and nerdy geek supplier.

My belly; the entrance to paradise.

When I was asked to join some friends for lunch at Paradiso today, I could not say no.

My wife accidentally ended up there when getting lost going to a funeral with her father. Since then they go back from time to time because they love the food and atmosphere.  I have always been secretly jealous that I have never been invited. So when the opportunity arose, I jumped all over it!
